Pricing your menu for delivery apps

Why delivery-app orders can lose money, and how to set a markup per app that covers the commission.

Published

Delivery apps take a commission on each order. If your app price is the same as your counter price, that commission comes straight out of your margin.

See what you keep

Take the app price. Subtract the app’s commission. Subtract the cost to make the dish and the packaging. What is left is what the order really earned.

Check your own contract for the commission: it differs between apps and plans.

Use a markup per app

Raise prices on each app by a percentage that covers its commission, then round up to a .99 ending so prices look clean. Because apps charge different commissions, use a separate markup for each one.

Hide what does not pay

If a dish cannot make money after commission and packaging at a price customers will accept, hide it on that app.

Skillet does this for you: a markup per app rounded up to .99, set prices and hidden dishes per app, and a price list to copy into each app’s menu. See online and delivery.
